When my kids started learning Spanish, one of the best things that helped them was fun Spanish activities. When you create a fun learning environment for kids, they don’t realise they are learning, it becomes natural.

6. Spanish Story Time

Reading books is a fantastic way to build vocabulary and comprehension. If you can set aside some time each day to read some Spanish books, it is one of the best activities for kids to learn Spanish. For older kids magazines can be a great resource too.

Board games are an excellent way to encourage language learning. There is nothing like playing a good board game with family or friends. Board games provide valuable talking practice especially those such as Bingo or Scrabble where you really practice words and vocabulary but also need to talk about the game too.

If you like to cook, then it can be a wonderful way to introduce not only new vocabulary but also cultural traditions You can cook simple Spanish recipes like “tortilla de patatas” or “churros” together.  talk about the ingredients, utensils, and steps in Spanish. If you don’t like cooking then head out to a  Spanish or Latin American restaurant. It’s a hands-on learning experience that ends with a delicious reward!

Flashcards are a tried-and-true method for memorizing vocabulary. You can create your own flashcards at home with pictures and words in Spanish or you can purchase them online. They are great to play matching games or memory games but also games like “I Spy” in Spanish, which helps with vocabulary recall and sentence structure.

10. Crafts and Art Projects

Arts and crafts can be fun in any language! You can use arts and crafts to practice Spanish with your kids by labeling colors, shapes, and materials in Spanish. When our kids were young we would make collages, draw, or paint while using Spanish words to describe what we’re creating.
